Antidepressant for insomnia?

Question

I have “chronic ” insomnia esply in the last 4 years. Fibro, Hashimoto’s, peri-menopausal. I use zopiclone 7.5mg to sleep and it works great for me. My question is there anyone here taking an antidepressant for insomnia with success and sleeping at night ? Which one ? Doctor wants me to use an antidepressant for the insomnia. I do not wish use them as the side effects scare me. I am not depressed. Looking for feedback. Thx <3

  1. I take Trazodone for insomnia. It is an antidepressant but it is also prescribed for patients with insomnia. Medications can treat multiple symptoms. Don’t get so hung up on the fact that it’s an antidepressant. It really has helped me sleep better.

  2. I use Ambein. It works ok for me but I get optimal sleep if I soak in a bath with Epsom salt/baking soda/ lavender EO before taking it.

  3. I used to use trazodone and hated it. I slept, but was more than groggy all day.

  4. I’ve used trazadone before too. I felt pretty groggy all day, but not everyone does. Lunesta works great for me but I can’t afford it. My dr prescribed some xanax for me to take before bed if I need to. It just relaxes me enough that I can sleep and I feel perfectly fine the next day.

  5. Thx guys for the feedback ! Prior to the zopiclone, I have tried supplements, melatonin, I use various essential oils for insomnia. Meditation, evening massage, foot reflexology in the evening as it is popular here in Singapore. I still take magnesium glycinate.

  6. I was never a fan of melatonin, it made me super groggy in the morning. I thought about an antidepressant but instead started taking a powder magnesium drink called Calm which has really helped. I actually sleep through the night now.

  7. Melatonin .. didn’t really help .. still up till 5 am.. sleep maybe 2-3 hours and that’s it

  8. No MD after my name but be careful with melatonin. It’s an immune booster and AI peeps need that like the plague. With that said, I find 5-HTP works well. I prefer the time release. Healing energy..

  9. I take a combo of Seroquel, trazadone and Temazepam…sometimes through in some Xanax

  10. It has been my experience that Effexor interferes with sleep. Must take in the morning. I take Benadryl to help sleep. I also use a cpap, ear plugs and diffuse essential oils. I’ve been sleeping like a baby. Not tired at all during day. I also take low dose of liothyronine, generic t3 cytomel.

  11. Thanks for sharing guys.
