Does anyone know any information on l -tryptophan?

Does anyone know any information on l -tryptophan? I just started taking it at night to see if I have any improvement in my anxiety. I keep finding conflicting information on whether it’s good or bad. I’m also breastfeeding a toddler so trying to be careful but I want to feel better. I also do magnesium oil and Ashwagandha.

  1. Melatonin n vit d are not recommend in this group please read pinned post at top of page that will answer many ?

  2. Hello Christina, I think that the group tends to just stick to the protocol rather than getting involved with other supplements . From a personal view point them I would be very leery about supplementing with L tryptophan if one suffers from anxiety . As you probably know it is an amino acid that works to increase serotonin . Serotonin is a very important hormone is also a stress hormone and as such raising it may have unwanted consequences . It might increase your anxiety and one must proceed with extreme caution if you are on or have ever taken SSRIs or tranquilizers.

  3. The mood cure is a good book to read if you're interested in supplementing with amino acids

  4. My suggestion is to start making and taking golden paste. It's a combo of cooked Turmeric, coconut oil and fresh black pepper. Turmeric is an excellent anti-inflammatory and has been shown to be more effective than Prozac at treating depression and anxiety.

They've literally used Turmeric in India for thousands of years and commonly use it for babies so it's safe while you're breast feeding.

It's easy to make. It takes 15 minutes. And if it's just you taking it, a single batch will last you a month. You simply make it and separate it in two parts. Freeze one and the other can be kept in the fridge for up to two weeks. Once that two weeks it's up you simply thaw your freezer half in the fridge and it will be good for two weeks.

It worked for some mild depression I had and it has been amazing for my sister who was having some severe depression. We both take golden paste twice a day every day and SAMe. But you will need to research if SAMe is safe during breast feeding. I'm sure golden paste is however.

I recommended this to a girl who suffers from depression a couple of weeks ago and she told me she's already improved!!! But I would give it at least 6 weeks as depression can take longer to treat. That being said, I noticed an improvement after a week or two and my sister did as well.

It's very effective. I highly recommend it. I will post the recipe for you. I suggest trying it.

  5. Golden Paste Recipe

    1/2 cup turmeric
    1-2 cup water
1/3 cup organic coconut oil or olive oil
2-3 teaspoons fresh ground black pepper
    1 tablespoon Ceylon cinnamon (optional)*

    1. Stir together one cup water and 1/2 cup turmeric in pot on low heat. Bring to a slight boil.
    2. Simmer for ten minutes, stirring frequently. The mixture will thicken as it is heated. The end product should end up being about the consistency of thin pudding. If mixture begins to thicken too much, add a bit more water along the way.
    3. Remove from heat.
    4. Stir in 1/3 cup coconut or olive oil, 2-3 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper (use whole black peppercorns and grind fresh EACH time you make the recipe) and if you want, 1 tablespoon ceylon cinnamon (optional)* until well blended.
    5. Put into glass jar and refrigerate. It is good for 2-3 weeks in the fridge. (Some say the golden paste looses its effectiveness after one week in the fridge so you may choose to half the ingredients to make less and simply make a fresh batch every week.)

*Ceylon cinnamon helps lessen the odor given off from turmeric in dogs. Some dogs, when they eat golden paste, give off a cat urine smell when starting turmeric and the ceylon cinnamon will help. It can be omitted.

Humans: 1/4 teaspoon twice per day with food, can be taken every 6 hours.
Dogs/Cats: 1/8-1/4 teaspoon twice per day with food
Horses: 1 teaspoon twice per day with food

Start golden paste at a lower dosage at first. A half dose is a good starting point. If, after a few days, it has caused no stomach upset, increase the dose. Continue to increase the dose until reaching the full amount listed above. You can continue to increase the dose beyond the suggested amount above if you are looking for more therapeutic benefits. Some people say they need to take 1-2 tablespoons each time they take it. Just find the dosage that is best for you.

    Dr. Doug English website:

    Half dose recipe

    1/4 c turmeric
    1/2-1 c water
    2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons coconut oil
    1 1/2 teaspoon pepper
    1 1/2 teaspoon Ceylon Cinnamon

  6. I really wanted to find more out about L-Tryptophan because I have some. I might try the golden paste. We use turmeric in curry and dal we make often. Also in a tea when under the weather.

  7. Too much tryptophan, out of balance with other aminos, inhibits the thyroid function. Have stopped using whey protein as it was dropping my energy , I believe because of this.

  8. I'd read Julia Ross' (The Mood Cure) book. You will get most or all of your AA questions answered.

  9. I just got back the Genova Ion test and my tryptophan level was high. I am wondering why. I do use collagen. I do not eat gluten dairy soy or legumes. I rarely even eat grains

  10. Good for sleeping!

  11. As a mother currently nursing a toddler, I must say I am always blown away at how many other nursing mother's take prescription/OTC meds/supps. Nearly everything you ingest, your baby ingests. Being unfamiliar with it, I just did a quick Google on l tryptophan, and it took all of 2 minutes for me to say I would never risk this while nursing. Start the protocol, I'm sure you'll see improvement. It cured my anxiety after about a month.

  12. Try 18g of inositol powder. Its an alternative to anti anxiety Rx. It works great.
