Have any of you taken your thyroid out?

Question

Hi everyone! Thanks for allowing me to join! I was diagnosed with hashi at the end of September 2015 and I’ve been doing lots of research and trying to normalized such a sucky illness. I just have one question……have any of you taken your thyroid out? I keep reading complicating things about it and it honestly seems like the “right” thing to do since it’s going to be a lifetime struggle. But I’m scared, I’ve never had surgery and I don’t want to make the wrong choice. TIA!

  1. I am having mine taken out on the 22nd.. I know a lot of people who have had theirs taken out and they said they have never felt better..Good Luck!

  2. I was told to hold on to it as long as possible so that it doens’t move on to attack something else…..

  3. Thank you guys! Mine is pretty big and it does bother me on occasion, I am actually really thankful for it since all my other t numbers are normal they wouldn’t have checked it if it wasn’t so big. I also have no nodules

  4. Not knowing your specific situation, I think in general that is a very bad choice (unless a doctor specifically has a reason to take it out). There is so much you can do to get better if you are recently diagnosed, you probably have a better chance of fixing things compared to some who as had it for decades. It absolutely does not have to be a lifetime struggle!!! What if your root cause is a nutrient deficiency like iodine, zinc, selnium or tyrosine – the stuff that is needed to produce thyroid hormones. What if you have an underlying gut issue or inflammation that triggered and makes the disease worse. If you get your thyroid out, these problems are still there and you are permanently on thyroid replacement for the rest of your life. Read the root cause thyroid book and others and find a good integrative or functional doctor and they can help you out.

  5. Wow thank you so much Brian John! I’ve been attempting the AIP lifestyle but it’s been hard at times. I need to find a good combination of supplements and better care
