When we get glutened do we feel it right away

I am recently diagnosed (less than 3 months ago) so I am still learning. My question is, when we get glutened do we feel it right away or can it come on a day or two later. I’ve recently had a couple bad bouts but can’t figure out when it happened. Also how long does the attack typically last for you? I’ve noticed I get the bad bloating, stomach pain, joint pain and severe fatigue. Sometimes I feel barely anything in my stomach but oh man the headaches! Is that what you all feel?

  1. Hi! I usually notice after a few hours but the joint paint, fatigue, headahces and all around awful usually takes 24-48 hrs for me. Then lasts about two weeks.

  2. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

  3. Different for everyone, When I first started i would notice in a day or two, But now I have been gluten free for 4yrs and I notice within 5 to 10 minutes. My mouth breaks out, bad bloating, stomach pain, joint pain and severe fatigue. Headache that makes me feel like I’m going to vomit and this can last up to a week for me. Drink lots of water to help flush it out.

  4. I notice it about 1 1/2 hours after, if bad. Sometimes the next day. Usually last about 24 hours for me. Makes it hard to know what it is that I ate.

  5. I have also found some cereals that say gluten-free affect me.

  6. I’ve had celiac for 64 years and it depended on what gluten I ate. The effect would take a few hours for the rumbles to start. I don’t get headaches I get the runs I’ve lost 10 lbs in one week because of it. Now you can get SO MUCH stuff that is gluten free, it’s great. One thing I did find if you do need to use wheat flour, organic is better then reg flour.

  7. Hi. I usually feel it within a few minutes. I get sick almost immediately but if I get just a trace amount, it will trigger a migraine within 12 hours or so
